How I work
Big shapes, honest values, colour that carries the feeling.
I studied animation and illustration, which taught me to build a picture from structure outward rather than detail inward. Everything since then — two decades of mentors, gallery shows, and a lot of ruined panels — has been about learning what to leave out.
A lot of my landscape work is painted outdoors, alla prima, in one sitting. The figures and portraits happen in the studio, usually over several sessions, and usually with at least one full repaint.
